Vail
One mountain, but it is enormous — 5,317 acres with 195 trails. The Back Bowls are legendary: wide-open, above-treeline powder skiing that feels like you have the mountain to yourself on a Tuesday.
Winner: Tie. Aspen has variety. Vail has scale.
The Town
Aspen
A real town with real residents. Victorian architecture, independent restaurants, a walkable downtown that does not feel manufactured. The Wheeler Opera House is a cultural landmark. The locals ski bumps you would not attempt.
Vail
A purpose-built ski village. European-inspired, pedestrian-only, lined with luxury retail. It is beautiful but curated. Less grit, more polish.
Winner: Aspen — if you want character. Vail — if you want convenience.
